What: Recovery Coach Academy (30 hrs) by Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR)

Who: Facilitated by Dr. Donna Potter, PhD and her team of Certified Trainers

When: Two consecutive Fridays and Saturdays (NOV 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th, 2019); 9 – 6pm

Cost: $475 – includes training manuals and light refreshments

** Registration Deadline: Friday, October 25th 2019 to avoid $50 late fee

Why: This 30-hour course is your first step towards becoming a NYS Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) or Certified Peer Recovery Advocate (CRPA). This training is one of the best trainings for anyone interested in becoming a Recovery Coach or Peer Advocate because it provides the knowledge and skills necessary to guide and mentor others through their recovery journey.

It can also help someone heal from the devastating effects of addiction (Family, Friends, Community, etc.) and help deepen their understanding and support of those affected by Substance Use Disorder  (SUD). Studies have shown that people do not recover in treatment, but that they recover in their communities. This training can be a community tool for helping recoveree’s start / maintain a successful recovery.

This curriculum will cover the following topics:

1. Components and guiding principles of Recovery
2. Roles and Functions of a Recovery Coach / Peer Advocate
3. Stigmas and Labels associated with Substance Use Disorder
4. Stages of Recovery
5. Multiple Pathways of Recovery
6. Culture and Cultural Competence
